Split Rock Waterfall

2008-04-21

This is a great place to visit and even take a refreshing dip into one of the pools created by this beautiful waterfall on a hot summer day. I have been going for several years and every time I went nobody was there. It was so peaceful and relaxing sitting, listening to the water flow. Then last year I went there mid-day and found many gathered enjoying this beautiful stream/waterfall the Adirondacks have to offer. The kids were jumping from the cliffs into the pools of water, it was amazing. I joined in and had a blast. I totally felt like a teenager again! Everyone should go check this out once this summer and you can still swim without jumping!

Hey Mike,

Do you have any directions to this waterfall?

Thanks,

Mr. O

Yes, if you go, please don't jump.  It can be very dangerous - some have died there over the years from jumping.  But, do go - bring a cooler and lunch, towels and bug repellant.  Go early and stay all day!

(get a good place to park on a hot day by going early, because LOTS of people will be parked along the road by late morning)

Mr. O,

Split Rock Falls is not to far from Plattsburgh, New York. Travel south on I-87 to exit 30. Travel on route 9/73 toward the village of Lake Placid. At about 2 1/2 miles (4km) you will come to a intersection. Take a right, continuing your voyage on route 9N. You will come to a small bridge over the Boquet River just above Split Rock Falls. Just over the bridge you will find a parking lot. From the lot take the trail to the falls.

One of my favorite spots to go in the Adirondacks! That entire area has many great trails, just keep your eyes peeled for signs all along Rt. 86.

Soon it will be warm enough to go down there.  I went to the oxbow a couple of times already and some stupid boys were climbing up the bridge and jumping.  I hope no one gets hurt.

It's not that bad,  Just go when it's a real sunny warm day. You can jump in and then sun bathe on the rocks, they will warm you right and you'll be right back in the crisp, clean water.

Yeah, the bridge on Kent Falls Road has become a regular diving spot for the summer, ever since they closed the road.  I guess they really need to take out the bridge if they aren't going to reopen it.

It is dangerous. I hope the bridge does get removed before someone gets seriously hurt.

That bridge needs to go.
