What did you think of the debates last night?

2008-10-16

I'm personally confused about it all.  McCain has no life in him whatsoever.  I disagree with Obama that "Joe the plumber" should be taxed to "spread the wealth".  I just don't know, I am sick to my stomach after the debate.

Not sure what you mean by McCain having no life in him.. but, I thought this debate was much better than the last.

What I meant was that he is known for a hot temper and tries so hard to control it he looks lifeless, although I must say he did do better this time around then pervious debates.  What McCain lacked to do is call out Obama on his inexperience in D.C.  They both have faults and it would have been nice to see this debate take a more aggressive tone.

Is it true that four other candidates have enough of the electoral college to possibly win?  I saw that somewhere in one of these forums but cannot remember where.  Probably saw it the Mike Oot forum.

They both represent the same bird of prey. They both occupy each wing on the same bird of prey. We the people are the prey. The bird keeper is the banks and financial institutions and the cage they use is money. Neither one is offering the option of abolishing the system that got us in here in the first place. The problem is never addressed and we the people get the short straw, every time.

Check out opensecrets.org and find out who is contributing to these clowns. don't waste a vote for either one of these establishment hacks. They only repeat the same talking points over and over. If you repeat something loud enough and often enough people will believe it.

Barack Obama and John McCain both support a mandatory national (military or otherwise) service,  Do you?

They both say they want to fight spending, earmarks and pork barrel waste yet they both voted for a bill that started as 3 pages and cost us 700 billion dollars and ended up 450 pages and costing us 850 billion. That is called lying and talking out of both sides of your mouth.

They both believe in war and spreading democracy around the world at the barrel of gun if necessary.

They both believe in the same system and thus are only there to perpetuate it.

They both believe the government should help do things to make Americans better off.

"Government is essentially the negation of liberty" -Ludwig Von Mises

I wish Third Party Candidates were invited for the debate,  Maybe then the American people would have been provided with a non-scripted, genuine debate.

My mind's been made up for some time already, but McCain's foolish choice of running mate, terrible debate performances and inability to answer direct questions in or out of debate has cost him votes from a handful of people that I know personally.

I believe him to be a war monger bent on seeing his perception of "victory", regardless the cost to this country.  He looks, sounds and moves like a desperate man -- and that is no good with someone who's got an axe to grind for wars past.  IF he were to croak during a term -- I would definitely NOT want Palin presiding over the country -- and this argument alone has changed a lot of people's minds that I've spoken to.

I want a confident leader who speaks to the people even if that means going with less experience (which I actually think is a positive thing here anyway) -- I'm not looking for another 4 years with an angry schoolyard bully.

A bit off topic -- when McCain calls us "friends" in that plaintiff whisper voice that he uses to try and hide his anger, it's just creepy.

I'm voting for Obama in what I hope turns out to be Landslide '08.

I too wish there was more focus on the third party canidates. In response to Alar, I just hope you truly ponder your decision on Senator Obama! I can not vote for someone who has 143 days of experience in the Senate.. I would also have to say that if anyone has an inability to answer a direct question that it would be Senator Obama. I don't see how someone with less experience is the best choice for the position of President of the United States.

I would also have to say that I really can't see why you would say that Senator McCain is a "war monger". Don't you think that he, more than most others, understands what war is? For Christssake, the guy spent YEARS in the Hanoi Hilton.. he had a chance to leave but he stayed because it was the right thing to do. He stayed because it would be wrong for him to leave before the guys that were in there longer than he was.

I think Alar brings up a great point in that his mind has been made up for a while. I think a majority of the people who watched this last debate already knew who they were voting for (or in some cases already voted for!) The friend thing is VERY creepy.. glad I'm not the only one who thinks that!

Sorry, kibblesandbits -- I didn't mean to imply that I had all the answers; just throwing my own .02 in there and offering a couple of reasons.  I do not believe that hands-on experience is the only thing there is and am fully willing to give Obama a try.   A vote for McCain, to me, represents a desire to relive (at least) 4 of the past 8 years.  I am also more than a bit unsettled that Palin's pregnant daughter's husband-to-be has dropped out of school, is not a registered voter, and refers to the whole thing with "yeas" and "whatevers"; this shows a blatant lack of support right at her doorstep, but that's just my own opinion.

While we can differ in opinions on the majority of all this, we can certainly agree on the creepiness thing!

Alar, I'm just glad you are voting and actually have a position!! I think it is pretty cool how most people who post on here care about the election and our Nation.

I love to read everyone's point of view!  What I do not understand is this:  Both side of the isle have failed "the people" of this country.  You cannot blame one side without blaming the other!  For years and years it's been the same circle leading to the same place, NO WHERE!  How far can we continue on this path before we realize that our country is no longer a place for opportunities and personal freedoms that everyone takes for granted?  How much longer?
