Best Michigans

2008-08-06

Although michigans are not my favorite food, they're a Plattsburgh area "staple".  Having grown up with them, every summer talk turns to preferences.  Every individual has his/her own taste which doesn't usually agree with everyone else's tastes.  So, here under this topic, I propose a poll of sorts.  Which michigans are your favorites?

I personally, prefer Ronnie's as my #1 favorite.  There's no mistaking it, people either love or hate them.

Clare & Carl's are a close second, and my very last choice in a michigan is McSweeney's since they're recipe seems to have lost something in the definition of the word "sauce".  It's nothing more than a highly seasoned, crumbly meat on top, and after the first bite, the taste buds have been burned beyond recognition.

Well, that's my opinion - what's yours?

I've grown up on Ronnies. I'm actually not a big fan of michigans either but Ronnies and Harrigans is a summer-time must.

I've got to agree with you both.  I too grew up on Ronnie's Michigans and they were the best.  They seem to have lost something in recent years though, and now I would have to go with Claire and Carl's.

We are not the only area to enjoy these treats, they also exist under the name Coney Dogs in parts of Michigan I am told.

Yes, mousiebytes, I agree that Ronnie's michigans are not quite as good since they had to change the rolls, but for as much as I eat michigans (once or twice per summer), I still rate them as my favorites.

And Matt, I completely forgot to mention Harrigans, as I don't go there much anymore, but as a kid, it was a given to pair up a trip to Ronnie's with a stop at Harrigans after!  (on bike, no less)

I like Ronnie's too, because I grew up with them.  Does anyone know the history of Ronnie's Michigan Stand?
