Clinton County Fair

2008-07-23

I went to the Fair on $2.00 day, and it was crowded, but nice.  Walked around, sampled some local fare, visited with various people.  The rain was slight and scattered, so not uncomfortable at all.

My best friend brought her 5 year old to the fair Tuesday night. She said 'never again'. Not only did it cost $5 to play 1 little game, it would have cost her $11 to ride the merry go round with her daughter. Above and beyond that, the 'carnys' running the rides scared her to pieces. A creepy clown in a dunking booth was hollering perverted comments to the young girls walking by and her daughter got to hear it all. Another one called out to her sister in law with a sexual innuendo that was not received very well. All in all, she said it was expensive and made her uncomfortable.

Yeah, overall, I was pretty unimpressed.  We went for the 4H cow showing, where we have some relatives taking part in.  That was pretty cool, as my young cousin kicked butt with his nice looking hefer.  :)

My folks and I walked the grounds, and nothing really exciting going on in my opinion.   Said "hi" to the elephants, camels, and horses.  Avoided the games and rides altogether.

The clintion county republicans and democrats, as well as the "right to life"'ers kind of gave me the creeps.  I commented to my dad that the Republican "booth" had no Bush stickers in sight.  Funny, that.

Spending time with the family was the best part, but overall - two thumbs down.   We're looking forward to the Champlain Valley Fair in Vermont.  Always a good time.

I'd agree with Rich, except I say one thumb up for the fair.  The midway is to be avoided, but the fair itself is good.  Maybe smaller this year, but still a lot of nice animals there!
