Terrible Streets

2008-06-10

I agree that S. Cath is horrible and need of Fixing.

Especially when it is a highly traveled road to the airport.

At least make our city presentable to the visitors the airport is bringing to our city!!!

ITS NOT ONLY THE ROADS, ITS THE SIDEWALKS ALSO. I MOUNTAIN BIKE A LOT, SOON AS YOU GET ON THE PATHS YOUR SET. BUT WHEN YOU COME UPON THE SIDEWALKS, IF YOUR MALE, YOU NEED TO STAND UP UP! PERFECT LOCATION IM TALKING ABOUT, THE SIDEWALKS, IN FRONT OF THE DORMS AT SUNY PBURGH ON RUGER.

Um, not for nothing but bikes do not belong on the sidewalks.  As for the roads I just wonder why it is that Bailey can be repaired twice in the last 10 years but South Catherine has not been repaved in probably more than 20 years.

Seems to me that the city is decidedly against fixing up the south end of the city.  South Catherine and South Peru provide access to one of only two southern exits of the city.  Now, the public works department is "patching" the South Catherine/South Peru intersection.  This might work for the summer but once winter hits we'll be back in the same position, except we will have paid salaries for wasted work.

Well then "Tendersack", deal with it.

In reply to Jim, regarding the city and town becoming "one".  I heard that the city was considering asking this of the town. (not sure if it was a rumor or fact).  The town of Plattsburgh HAS to be thriving, and that's fantastic, so why would they want to take on all of the debt, repairs and political issues of the city?

By the way, I do agree the city streets are bad.  I guess the city is not only saving on pavement repairs, but also on law enforcement, since people inevitably HAVE to stay well under the speed limit to protect thier vehicles (and hip joints) from damage!

Elevendee, we all know bikes don't belong on the sidewalk, but sometimes it's safer for both the biker and the vehicles if the bikes are on the sidewalk.  Making them wide enough to be shared is another story altogether.

The fact is, if the sidewalks are hard on bikes, imagine how rough they must be for people walking, especially seniors who could easily trip.  Let's face it, lots of things need to be done - by the city ?  By a special committee raising funds for some of these projects?

If you are on the sidewalk riding a bike, there are plenty of opportunities to go back onto the road and go around the people on the side-walk. If everyone had a little more respect for each other, this petty problem with bikers and walkers on sidewalks wouldn't matter.

As for a special committee, this would be a great thing for all the unattended projects our city must look into. Then that special committee could give a weekly or monthly reports to residents on how these projects are moving along. Then we the taxpayers could keep track of who is and who isn't doing their job.
