Terrible Streets

2008-04-25

Is there a reason why the streets are in such horrible condition in Plattsburgh? Is there just no money to keep them maintained? It seems like a minimum requirement is to keep the streets driveable but unless you have an SUV it is like driving through a minefield.

I would think everyone realizes how terrible the roads are but why are they still in such bad shape? Money? Politics? Stupidity?

It's probably a mixture of all three. My car bounces around on almost every road in this city. I take a ride out to the Town of Plattsburgh and the roads there make the city roads seem like a war zone.

Someone needs to be questioned, we need some answers and most of all we need Action. I haven't seen one road crew repairing the horrible roads. Every time you drive by these workers, when you do see them, if you do see them, it sure looks like they are always doing NOTHING. These workers are being paid with our tax dollars, I paid my taxes, FIX MY ROADS!

Does anyone else agree with me?

I agree with you Jim. I recently had a blowout due to a massive pot hole. Thank goodness my husband was home that day or I wouldn't have known what do. City taxes are outrageous and Jim, you are right, I see no repairs being made on our roads.

Matt I would like you to know, the potholes are not drivable even if you have a SUV. I was driving mine the day the "minefields" got me.

I have to say that the roads around here are pretty crappy.

My wife has a bad hip and severe arthritis. She can no longer go out anywhere with me because the roads around here are crumbling apart, the bumps and holes are horrendous.

What is our city doing about these repairs? Does anyone have a clue as to what is gong on around this city? Are we broke? I once heard something about dissolving the city and joining the town to alleviate the tax burdens. This would happen because all of the major companies that pay the town taxes are in the town, not the city. That means Wal-Mart, everything in between on Route 3, and the Champlain Center businesses pay taxes to the town. It is a possible idea, has anyone else ever heard of this?
