Mike, actually you can watch the race, many of the big races throughout the world have spectator boats. It may seem a little boring if you do not know anything about racing sailboats but there are many boats that could fix that. Also everyone in the local club (Valcour Sailing Club) is interested in growing the sport, and because of that different boats have picked up crew from the CBCBC's (City Sponsored) Learn to Sail Program, as well as people who have never stepped foot on a boat before. The reason the club (and more important the individual boats) are interested in getting new people to join our sport is so we can all grow and learn. (and hopefullly have more boats out sailing). Don't forget the only reason there are shore activities going on is because of the race. WIthout the shore activities the race would still go on. However if it was not for the race the shore activities would never have started.
Before i hear one more person say sailing is for the rich... EVERYONE can sail, as I said before, many boats are willing to take on one or two people each year so they can learn how to race.
