Natural Gas Line

2008-07-14

On Cumberland Head, the town of Plattsburgh is trying to get NYSEG to install a natural gas line alongside a new water supply line.  Anyone have an opinion on that?

I think it would be nice to have another energy option available, but I'm concerned about the safety aspect of it.  Does anyone have an info?

Yeah, I read the "newsletter" that comes in my NYSEG bill, but since this is a NYSEG project, I'd prefer some outside info.

Did anyone else attend the meeting on Cumberland Head regarding installation of the natural gas line?  I'm curious to see some other opinions, since this decision is so immediate (lack of response would alleviate the need to make a decision here though).

I grew up in La where Nat Gas lines are everywhere. No worries about safety unless you run an excavator for a profession(if u do then have the utility to come mark the lines before digging). I even used to install gas lines for swimming pool heaters and never had a problem so dont worry about safety too much. The bigger worries is the silly hyperinflating price tag! What could it be good for up here you cant afford to heat a home on it, Clothes dryer or water heater maybe as it does a great job but you really want to swap over your appliances for minimal cost savings if any as the price is inflating faster than electricty atm? It is nice but whats it worth? I do love to cook with it as it blows electric burners away in terms of usability.

Natural gas burns more efficiently and cleaner than fuel oil, therefore economically better, if the prices remain in line with each other.  However, I was wondering if anyone reading this community forum might have been in attendance at the meeting on Cumberland Head last week.  I would like to hear the opinions of others on the time frame given to decide.

Three months is too soon for me.  I'm not currently in a position to make any major change in that time frame.  I might be more apt to consider it if given several more months.  In any case, I'm still undecided.
