Clinton County going green?

2008-07-10

I am trying to get the word out, for those reading please pass it along to anyone you know and contact the county Legislature. I sent an e-mail to everyone (who had an e-mail address listed on the Clinton County website) requesting they look into the possibility of using Bio-Diesel with the CCPT buses. I contacted a supplied of the filter equipment and found that for roughly $3,000 they could have a system in place to deliver 40 gallons of fuel a day. (for an extra $500 it appears they could have a system that would make up to 80 gallons of fuel) Since our winters are very cold they would need to have about a 50/50 mix of Diesel and bio-diesel when temperatures dropped below freezing. I ask that you do your own research and if anyone out there has more information please share, as I do not pretend to be an expert on Bio-Diesel. Once you do your own research and if you believe it would be beneficial to use Bio-Diesel (beneficial to the environment, and cost efficient) please write to the County Legislature (or at least your own representative) to show support for using Bio-Diesel with the public transportation vehicles.
(If we can get them to switch these vehicles over, then we can tackle other vehicles owned by the county at a later date)

It is time to stop complaining that we as a society do nothing about the rising cost of fuel and the destruction of our environment and start to do something about it.

Thanks

Tim

I think our county should go completely GREEN and be the first county in NYS to do so.  Clinton County should set the example on how it's done.  Who around these parts can convert or do whatever to vehicles to make them green?

I would also like to know what is going on with the Beekmantown Wind Project.  How many homes does one wind tower provide electricity for?

I ride my bicycle around town.  It only takes a little bit to get from one end to the other.  Try it out!

I wanted to update my last message.  I have received a couple of responses from the legislators, the CCPT is outsourced to a company and they will see if the company is interested in Bio-Diesel.  If not there is nothing they can do at this time, except look for a company that will use Bio-Diesel in the next round of bids.

Liberty Lover, isn't it difficult getting around town on a bike though?  I think the parking situation and the traffic would make it somewhat of an obstacle course...

Biking works- I ride often it is no problem. I try to do the "if I have nothing to carry I ride" method of forcing myself to ride. It really is fun and adds very little time to the commute.  Plus its healthy :)

Do you ride in the city mostly?  I find it somewhat hazardous at times.  I'd want to ride the sidewalk, but can't because of the obvious (people walk there), and the ridges would be awful.
