the four corners of the world

Longueuil, May, 18th 2011
The International Festival of Percussions of Longueuil, presented by Loto-Quebec, is pleased to
announce its 10th edition, which will be held from July 13th to 17th 2011 on St. Charles street in
the heart of Old Longueuil. Also, for the first time, « l’Hôte zone » on the outer perimeter of the shopping
mall Place Longueuil, near the metro. This stage will offer two shows each night with the sole guiding
“the unusual”. This edition will welcome nearly 700 artists and 150 000 festival-goers.
The Festival is proud to welcome, as spokesman, the famous Normand Brathwaite from Quebec,
who will present, with all the spokespersons of the previous editions, the opening show: a unique
creation, rich in rhythms and color, offering a retrospective of the last nine years of the Festival.
An International Festival, more than ever!
For this 10th edition, the FIP will once again honor the last four invited countries and allocate
to each of them a day of festivities on Saint Charles Street. Thus, the Festival will wake up in
Old Longueuil Thursday, July 14th to the sound of Brazil. Friday will give way to the music and dance
of Cuba. On Saturday, we will go on the side of Guadeloupe. And finally, Spain will close the festival
on Sunday with a note of flamenco and other traditional music of this beautiful country of Southern
Europe.
This year more than ever, Loto-Quebec will be international with 56 guadeloupeans from the band
Maskaklé, those of the band Adi Amis Des Iles, Paulo Ramos and Bia proud representatives of
Brazil, or Rene Lazaro and The Cuban Martinez Show for the Cuban note. Jose Galvez, Jose Maya
accompanied by Rosanne Dion will visit us again at the Festival this year. Also, four foreign painters
will be here and perform every night, live. Quebec artists will also have their place in the program which
including Martin Deschamps, Bob the Spoon who will bid farewell to the public on Saturday.
When creating rhythmes with audacity ...
For this 10th edition of the Festival International de Percussions de Longueuil presented by Loto-
Quebec, will be bold and imaginative in offering unique shows created especially for the event. It
will be for example, the case of the concert of the Symphony orchestra of Longueuil, which will present
«Le Coup d’éclat» a show which synchronized music and fireworks, pulled at the same time as part of
The International fireworks of Loto-Quebec presented by La Ronde.
FIP, a multidisciplinary festival
The Desjardins de la Relève stage will propose ‘le Concours de la Relève’
where young artists will perform under the watchful eye of a jury and offer in the evening, professional
shows by emerging artists. La Scène Journal de Montréal des Découvertes will provide an
opportunity for artists of all ages to showcase their talents to the public. Finally, ‘La Scène des
diversités’ will welcome a variety of disciplines which can be combined with percussions, such as
circus acts, juggling, acrobatics, or street theater.
Saturday and Sunday at 11.30pm, time and space will be devoted to children with “Place à
la famille 105.7 FM”. In the St. Mark Park, many activities and entertainment will be offered. Every
noon a picnic will be offered by the Rôtisseries St-Hubert of Longueuil, to the first 200 children
attending in the family party.
The highlight of the Festival will be, again this year, the Carnival Parade McDonald, where
itinerant drummers, costumed dancers and festival goers will meet for 90 minutes of Brazilians,
Cubans, Guadeloupeans, Spanish rhythms and strolling on Saint Charles street from the Co-
Cathedral of Saint Antoine de Padoue to Place Longueuil. It will take place Sunday, July 17th at
3 pm.
