Tyler Rebello to Give Senior Voice Recital at SUNY Plattsburgh

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. (March 11, 2011)–SUNY Plattsburgh music student Tyler Rebello will present his Senior Voice Recital on Saturday, April 2, at 7:30 p.m. in Krinovitz Recital Hall, Hawkins Hall.

Rebello (tenor) is a voice student of Timothy Morningstar. He will be receiving his Bachelor of Arts degree in music in May 2011.

Music student Yana Groves (piano) will accompany Rebello in a program that will open with a collection of English early-Baroque music. A set of two pieces by Henry Purcell are paired with text from 17th-century drama. In the first piece, the opening words, “If Music Be the Food of Love,” are taken from Shakespeare’s “Twelfth Night.” The second piece, “Music for a While,” begins with text from Dryden’s 16th-century tragedy, “Oedipus.” The final Baroque piece, “No, No, No It Must Not Be So,” composed by James Hook, is set to the text of an unknown author.

Rebello will continue with a set of two German pieces from the Romantic era. Franz Schubert’s “Ständchen”— the most renowned art song from “Schwanengesang”— was published in 1829, a few months after his death in 1828. “Schöne Wiege” was composed by Robert Schumann in 1840 during his “Year of Songs.”

“Vainement, ma bien aimée,” an aria from Edouard Lalo’s opera “Le Roi d’Ys (The King of Ys), will end this portion of the program.

The second half of the program will begin with Benjamin Britten’s “Canticle III: Still Falls the Rain” with student Victoria Banas (French horn). 

Rebello will conclude his recital with a set of songs from American musicals such as “Ragtime,” by Stephen Flaherty; “Candide,” by Leonard Bernstein; “Into the Woods,” by Stephen Sondheim; and “Do Re Mi,” by Jule Styne.

Rebello began his studies at SUNY Plattsburgh in 2007. Originally from Cape Cod, he attended Twin Valley High School in southern Vermont. While at SUNY Plattsburgh, Rebello studied voice with Timothy Morningstar and has been featured in such roles as Jimmy Harper (“Reefer Madness”) in 2008, Drunken Sailor (“Dido and Aeneas”) and J. Pierrepont Finch (“How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying”) in 2009.  Rebello's credits also include multiple performances in the Friday Gallery Concert Series, featured solos in the biennial Lyric Scenes Workshop, and numerous College Theatre Association productions. Rebello will be completing his Bachelor of Arts degree in Music in May 2011 and was recently accepted into New York University’s Master of Music program in vocal performance with a specialization in music theater.
