Rory Wallace to Give Senior Voice Recital at SUNY Plattsburgh
PLATTSBURGH,
N.Y. (March 22, 2011) – SUNY Plattsburgh music student Rory Wallace
will present his Senior Voice Recital on Sunday, April 10, at 3 p.m. in
Krinovitz Recital Hall, Hawkins Hall, located on the SUNY Plattsburgh
campus.
Wallace is a voice student of Jo Ellen Miano, associate professor in music.
Accompanying Wallace will be music faculty member and pianist Dr. Karen Becker.
The
first half of the program will begin with select vocal works by
Bellini, Donaudy, and Fauré and conclude with the elaborate aria “Be Not
Afeard” from Lee Hoiby’s operatic version of “The Tempest.” The second
half of the program will include selections from Schumann’s
“Dichterliebe” and Vaughan Williams’ “Songs of Travel.”
Admission is free and open to the public.
Wallace attended the
College of Science, Technology and the Applied Arts of Trinidad and
Tobago where he was grounded in his technical musical training and began
his journey toward professional musicianship. He then transferred to
SUNY Plattsburgh in the spring of 2009 where he began vocal studies with
Miano. During his time at SUNY Plattsburgh, Wallace has performed with
the Cardinal Singers, College Chorale, Choral Union, Gospel Choir and
the Mambo Combo.
In 2009, he was the tenor soloist in Schubert’s “Mass in G” at SUNY
Plattsburgh’s ChoralFest. In 2010, he played the role of Mr. Twimble in
the music and theater departments’ Mainstage co-production of “How to
Succeed in Business Without Really Trying.” He sang the role of Aeneas
in Purcell’s Baroque opera, “Dido and Aeneas” and was the tenor soloist
in Ralph Vaughan Williams’ “Serenade to Music” in the Champlain Valley
Voices/ SUNY Plattsburgh Choral Union program “Sounds of Sweet Harmony”
in spring 2010. Wallace’s upcoming performances include scenes from
Franz Lehár’s “The Merry Widow,” Robert Kurka’s “Good Soldier Schweik,”
and Harold Rome’s “Fanny” with Lyric Scenes Workshop.
He has also been a recipient of a Louise H. Heisler Music
Scholarship. Wallace will complete his Bachelor of Music degree in May
2011 and will continue to study voice at the graduate level.
