“Roller Derby, darts and Dames”

Plattsburgh, NY – Plattsburgh’s roller derby team, the North Country Lumber Jills, is hosting a fund raiser featuring a dart tournament. “Roller Derby,Darts & Dames” will take place on Saturday, March 26, 2011.  The team has arranged the event in support of the continued efforts to introduce Roller Derby to the North Country.

“Roller Derby, Darts and Dames” will be held at Woodstock’s, 89 Margaret Street, Plattsburgh NY, from 10:00pm to 2:00am.  The event will highlight a dart tournament where participants team-up with skaters. The cost of the tournament is $5.00, admission is free. Raffle items and team merchandise will be featured. A free sticker is being offered with pre-paid T-shirt orders, which showcases the new Jill logo.

This event is aimed at raising funds to continue the team’s advancement and host a roller derby bout in Plattsburgh. In recent months, the Lumber Jills have been renting the Plattsburgh City Gym and since have participated in their first scrimmage against a local competitive league, as well as, held several community based charity promotions. "The Jills are putting themselves out there as athletes and traveling in competition these coming months. We will get on the map in New York, Vermont, and New Hampshire." says Big Ben of the Jills. "You may also run into us today while walking for cancer up on the oval."

The North Country Lumber Jills is an all-female, flat track roller derby team.  The team is an official not-for-profit organization and has recently held their second open recruitment for referees, skaters and non-skating officials, which resulted in new members at multiple skill levels.
