SUNY Plattsburgh Music Department to Host New Music and Culture Symposium

Event to Bring Composers, Performers from SUNY System to Plattsburgh
PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. (Sept. 23, 2010) – The SUNY Plattsburgh Department
of Music presents a New Music and Culture Symposium featuring composers
and performers from SUNY colleges and universities Friday, Oct. 1, in
Hawkins Hall.
Public events include a brief lecture/demonstration by the musicians
at 4 p.m. in Krinovitz Recital Hall. This will be followed by a new
music concert at 7:30 p.m. in E. Glenn Giltz Auditorium. Both events are
free and open to the public.
Participating in the performance are SUNY Stony Brook musicians
Daniel Panner (viola), Ann Ellsworth (horn), Piero Guimarães
(percussion) and Ellen Hwangbo (piano).
Chamber works by the
following composers will be performed: Bill Pfaff (SUNY Plattsburgh),
Sheila Silver (SUNY Stony Brook) and Suzanne Farrin and Laura Kaminsky
from SUNY Purchase. “Yellow Ribbons No. 47” for solo horn, composed by
Max Lifchitz (SUNY Albany) for Ann Ellsworth, will receive its world
premiere.
The concert will conclude with Robert Schumann’s “Adagio and Allegro” for viola and piano in honor of his 200th birth year.
The
symposium is sponsored by the SUNY Plattsburgh Department of Music with
support from the Student Association through the Campus Arts Council
and a grant from College Auxiliary Services.
