When: Saturday, March 20, 2010

Plattsburgh, NY. 1199SEIU healthcare workers at CVPHP will hold a press conference near the hospital on Saturday morning, March 20, at 10 a.m., urging Congressman Owens to support the healthcare reform legislation that is expected to go before the House some time on Sunday. The hospital workers, members of 1199SEIU, the largest union of healthcare workers on the east coast are supporting the bill that they say will:
• Make insurance more affordable by providing the largest middle class tax cut for health care in history;
• Give tens of millions of Americans the exact same insurance choices that members of Congress have;
• Keep premiums down and prevent insurance industry abuses and denial of care by with greater accountability measures
• End discrimination against Americans with pre-existing conditions;
• Allow children to remain on their parent’s coverage – up to age 26.
Roger James said, “As a hospital worker, I see too many families who can’t afford health insurance, patients who didn’t get treatment in time -- then they land in the emergency room. They come in with what had developed into serious and acute illnesses. The domino effect is that then they can’t afford their prescriptions and they land right back in the emergency room. A vote yes on health insurance reform means peace of mind for millions of families in this situation. Health reform is a major achievement the American people need and deserve, and the time to do it is now.”
