Gospel Choir to Present Vocal Clinic, a Cappella Performance
PLATTSBURGH,
N.Y. (Feb. 9, 2010) - SUNY Plattsburgh’s Gospel Choir will present its
8th-annual a cappella concert Saturday, Feb. 27, at 7:30 p.m. in the E.
Glenn Giltz Auditorium, Hawkins Hall. The price of admission is a $1
donation to the North Country Underground Railroad Association or a can
of food for the Interfaith Food Shelf.
The concert will be the result of a two-day vocal clinic open to
both SUNY Plattsburgh Gospel Choir members and the general public.
Students may take part in the clinic for free. Members of the general
public are asked to pay a $10 fee to defray the cost of the effort.
The clinic will be directed by Dr. Raymond Wise, a musician and
composer of more than 500 works who has directed more than 30 choirs
worldwide. Wise is also a member of the national faculty of the Gospel
Music Workshop of America, among other organizations. His main goal is
to use his education and experience to establish an accredited Center
for the Gospel Arts, in which gospel music and gospel arts can be
“elevated, instructed and promoted.”
The schedule for the clinic and concert is as follows:
- Reception. 4-4:45 p.m. Friday, Feb. 26, Room 300, Myers Fine Arts Building.
- Vocal clinic. 5-8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 26, Room 300, Myers Fine Arts Building.
- Vocal clinic. 10 a.m.-noon. Saturday, Feb. 27, Room 300, Myers Fine Arts Building.
- Vocal clinic. 1:30-4 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 27, E. Glenn Giltz Auditorium, Hawkins Hall.
- Dress rehearsal. 6-7 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 27, E. Glenn Giltz Auditorium,Hawkins Hall.
- Concert. 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 27, E. Glenn Giltz Auditorium, Hawkins Hall.
This is just one of many scheduled events for the Gospel Choir this spring.
In
March the choir will take part in a tour of Washington, D.C., singing
in the community and at various churches. While there, members will
also perform at a reception for alumni in the area.
In addition, the choir will present its annual GospelFest May 8, 7 p.m. in the E. Glenn Giltz Auditorium.
