Cornell Cooperative Extension Clinton County To Offer Lunch Time Gardening Series
Over the past few years vegetable gardening has grown in popularity. To help both novice and experienced vegetable gardeners Cornell Cooperative Extension Clinton County will be offering a one-hour hands-on educational lecture series every other Tuesday at the Plattsburgh Community Garden located in the city of Plattsburgh Melissa Penfield Park this summer.
This outdoors program will run every other Tuesday with the first class on June 23, 2009. The last class will be on September 1, 2009. The sessions will be held at noon and end at 1:00pm to give people the opportunity to come during their lunch hour. No pre-registration is necessary. In the event of rain, the classes will be held at the pavilion next to the garden.
A variety of topics will be covered over the summer including soil health, tomatoes, growing greens, mulching, composting, common diseases, problem shooting, cover crops, and much more. A complete listing of dates and topics can be found on-line at http://ecgardening.cce.cornell.edu. There is a suggested donation of $5 per class. All donations will benefit the Plattsburgh Community Garden and Cornell Cooperative Extension.
Both Cornell Cooperative Extension
horticulture educator Anne Lenox Barlow and the Plattsburgh Community
Garden Group are excited with the opportunity to provide the community
with a place to learn how to grow food. Doug Butdorf, the Chair
of the Plattsburgh Community Garden Group feels The Plattsburgh Community
Garden was created with gardening education in mind. We're very
happy to provide the garden space needed in helping to teach our wider
community some of the basic and even some of the more advanced skills
needed to grow a few vegetable for ones own family."
