Welcome BennRymon to PPR
BennRymon has been a dedicated disciple to the four essential elements since the late 1980’s. Beginning as a graffiti artist in the early ‘90’s, he was the first to represent upstate New York on many of the most popular urban art websites. A number of these published works are presently still on display.
During this time, BennRymon served as an apprentice to popular area DJ Deep Groove. In those analog days, mobile DJing required a small army to transport equipment and records from gig to gig. After paying his dues carrying cases, speakers and crates of vinyl he was finally ready to take control of the wheels in 1995. For the next year he could be found cutting his chops at local house parties and dances.
In 1996, he was given the opportunity to fill in for an absent DJ on WRMC in Pennsylvania. The BennRymon Show was born. With the need for new and fresh material constant, he started producing original material for use on the show. Soon he had developed an appetite for production and became devoted to developing recording techniques and building a portfolio.
Trekking back to the north country in 1998, The BennRymon Show returned in a recorded format. Rare musical selections as well as precision blending and turntablism characterized this new wave of releases, co-hosted by DJ Hotep Distinction. One of their most popular shows, entitled Plastik Konstructions, was widely distributed on cassette tape and is still in demand today.
In 1999, along with a diverse collection of artists and musicians, BennRymon helped to establish a creative network that would later come to be known as the NorthEast Compact. He was instrumental in the release of the Prolifics first 12” vinyl single on Public Domain Record in Burlington, Vermont in 2000. The record included the songs “The Invocation” and “Ignorant Minds” which were later included on the Ecko Unlimited promotional compilation Rhino Drops Volume 2.
Partnering on projects across the country and around the world, BennRymon continues to produce, mix and record a variety of genres of music. In the new century, he has been involved in a plethora of ventures beyond hip hop releases. His collaborations with Jamaican reggae artist Cago can be heard on IRIE.FM, the most listened to reggae station in the world. His beats can be found in commercial advertisements and in documentary films. Currently he is recording Lucid’s highly anticipated second album and has recently committed to revive the popular BennRymon Show.
Now in it’s 31st season, the newest edition of The BennRymon Show will be presented without interruption, exclusively on Plattsburgh Pipeline Radio beginning July 4th, 2008. The broadcast will incorporate all of the aspects of past show as well as a new twist. It will be composed entirely a variety of local undiscovered independent urban music. Tune in and experience what the buzz is all about.
