Japhy Ryder - (Burlington, Vermont)
Jam band - http://www.japhyryder.com

Funky
but raw, intentioned and masterful this band is loud and exciting!
Although the members of JAPHY
RYDER have been playing together in various groups and configurations over
the past years, it was not until late September 2003 that the group
assembled to arrange and rehearse the material that would soon define
the band. Eager to avoid being pigeonholed, JAPHY
RYDER prefers not to be categorized, but when pressed, they describe their
unique sound as a blend of “Rock, Funk, Jazz and Drum ‘n’
Bass.” A sound that is expressly influenced by the jazz phrasing of
Miles Davis, the powerful funk of Parliament Funkadelic, and the
techno energy of Sound Tribe Sector 9. JAPHY
RYDER keeps people dancing. Armed with a guitar, bass, drums and a trumpet
this Burlington based quartet is one of the tightest bands on the
scene today.
JAPHY
RYDER,
whose name is borrowed from Jack Kerouac’s novel The Dharma Bums,
features Will Andrews (Trumpet), Jeremy Kizina (Guitar), Pat Ormiston
(Bass), and Jay Thime (Drums). The band’s strength ultimately lies
in its intention on sounding as a whole. JAPHY
RYDER’s
music can be best understood through live performance, where they
have been described as “moving as one voice.”
JAPHY
RYDER is a productive band. Touring has increased to include Massachusetts,
New Hampshire, Maine, Connecticut, New York, Pennsylvania, Rhode
Island, Ohio, West Virginia, and their home state of Vermont. These
have been at such renowned venues as The Lion’s Den, Revolution
Hall, Harper’s Ferry, the River St. Jazz Café, Savannah's,
the Knitting Factory, Higher Ground and many others. The band has
also had the privilege of sharing the stage with several prestigious
national acts including THE ROOTS, THE JACOB FRED JAZZ ODYSSEY, TEA
LEAF GREEN, TOPAZ, THE SAM KININGER BAND, BROTHERHOOD OF GROOVE, JEN
DURKIN’S BOMB SQUAD, BERNIE WORRELL AND THE WOO WARRIORS, LOTUS,
the SPAM ALLSTARS, OZOMATLI, UMELT, the NEW MASTERSOUNDS and most
recently FEMI KUTI . Continuing to gain exposure, JAPHY
RYDER has

The North East Kingdom Music
Festival, Camp Bisco V,
